LGBT Month and Marlene Dietrich

In the UK at the moment it's LGBT Month, which is a nationwide event to raise awareness of sexuality. Until only a few years ago, homosexuality was outlawed in schools, until Tony Blair and his comrades sneaked through an appeal of the notorious Section 28 of the Local Government Act. Now we actively celebrate sexuality in schools, which would have been useful when I was a confused teen.

Faye (my blog co-author), myself and our good friends Becky and Stefan went along to Marlene Dietrich - An Affectionate Tribute, which was part of this event. It was an absolutely astounding evening, to learn so much about someone who constantly challenged preconceptions and was willing to stand up for what she believed in; and she was bisexual. We all fell madly in love with her instantly!

Below is an excellent clip of her in Morocco (check out the lesbian kiss, in the 1930s, in America!)
